چکیده

Abstract Objective To see how strongly performance on a computerized visual digit span task correlates with non-computerized subtests. Method The data were chosen from de-identified database. Undiagnosed adult volunteers (n = 105) took the WAIS-IV Digit Span and TMB Demographic characteristics as follows: Age (M 28.5, SD 11.2), education 16.2, 1.9), gender (60% Female), race (69.8% White). A Pearson correlation was run longest forward (ldsf) backward (ldsb) raw scores of same individuals. Results suggest moderate between ldsf 7.14, 1.31) 6.90, 1.29) scores, r 0.45, p > 0.01. Moreover, results indicated ldsb 7.69, 1.43) 5.66, 1.81) 0.38, 73.1% participants had or within one both assessments, while 93% two digits. 63.8% 81.9% Conclusion Clinicians must note risk assuming tests measure cognitive functions standardized paper-and-pencil tests. These underscore this point. Future studies should continue to assess well in-person align other purporting abilities by examining variables (i.e., auditory vs. visual, controlled non-controlled environment).

Listening to Mozart does not enhance backwards digit span performance.

Rauscher, Shaw, and Ky recently reported that exposure to brief periods of music by Mozart produced a temporary increase in performance on tasks taken from the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale-IV. The present study examined whether this effect occurred in performance on a backwards digit span task. In a within-subjects design 36 undergraduates were exposed to 10-min. periods of Mozart music, a...

How they measure up

Not cool enough in summer. Not warm enough in winter. Guests staying at a prestigious country club in New York state complained regularly about the air conditioning and heating of their luxury suites and apartments. The geothermal heat exchange system serving this facility had never, in fact, been fully functional. The system’s maintenance staff had witnessed pump shutdowns as well, with the pu...

How does running memory span work?

In running memory span, a list ends unpredictably, and the last few items are to be recalled. This task is of increasing importance in recent research. We argue that there are two very different strategies for performing running span tasks: a low-effort strategy in which items are passively held until the list ends, when retrieval into a capacity-limited store takes place; and a higher-effort s...

Intraocular Pressure: Does it Measure Up?

The relationship between intraocular pressure (IOP) and glaucoma is complex and not fully understood. We question the validity of several claims relating to the IOP-glaucoma relationship: (1) that 12 mm Hg is an important target in IOP control; (2) that IOP variability is an important risk factor for glaucoma progression; and (3) that every millimeter of mercury of IOP lowering reduces the risk...
